Another great weekend At the movies with Get Smart making its debut.
Maxwell Smart is back as CONTROL Agent 86 battling the forces of KAOS with his partner agent 99.
Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway lead this all star cast in this action packed crime-action comedy.
It is interesting and satisfying through out and as good if not better that the original TV series with updated gadgets and mayhem.
Other cast notables include: James Caan, Bill Murray, Alan Arkin and Dwayne Johnson.
It has received mixed reviews but we feel Get Smart is worthy of..............................3.25-Stars.
As a side note, we couldn't bring ourselves to watch the Love Guru. That looked painful.
ON DVD
License to Wed - A charming romantic comedy starring Robin Williams as a pre-marriage advisor to a couple doomed to his help. Slow at times but has a happy ending. License to Wed merits............................................................................................................2.5-Stars
Before the Devil Knows You are Dead - When two brothers organize the robbery of their parents' jewelery store the job goes horribly wrong, triggering a series of events that sends them, their father and one brother's wife hurtling towards a shattering climax.
This crime-drama thriller although relatively unknown has an all star cast including; Philip Seymore Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, Albert Finney, Marisa Tomei, and Rosemary Harris. Although the story telling is tedious and repetitive at times, the premise is interesting and riveting and the twists and turns make the last half more bearable. We give Before the Devil Knows You are Dead.......................................................2.75 stars.
Lions for Lambs - This relatively simple movie with a complex message was very well acted by Meryl Streep, Robert Redford and Tom Cruise.
Circumstances involving two Army rangers behind enemy lines in Afghanistan set off a sequence of events involving a congressman, a journalist and a professor. It is certainly worth watching.
Lions for Lambs deserves..............................................................................................3.25-Stars
The Bucket List - Two terminally ill men escape from a cancer ward and head off on a road trip with a wish list of to-dos before they die. Wonderfully acted by Morgan Freeman, Jack Nicholson, and Sean Hayes this movie was as funny as it was touching. A must see,

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea - This oldie but goody Sci-fi flick has suffered a bit from lack of new technology but it has an interesting story line. Made in 1961, it has an star studded cast including; Walter Pidgeon, Joan Fontaine, Barbara Eden, Peter Lorre, Robert Sterling, Michael Ansara, and Frankie Avalon.
The action happens on a brand new nuclear submarine when it is discovered that The Van Allen Radiation belt has caught on fire and life on this planet would cease to exist unless something is done before the air temperature reaches 175 degrees.
Certainly worth watching on a rainy day, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea sails on with.................................................................................2.75-Stars

The Last Legion - This action-adventure, war period-piece is set in 467 AD as the Roman empire crumbles, and the last Caesar, young Romulus Augustus, flees the city and embarks on a perilous voyage to Britain to track down a legion of supporters. Staring Colin Firth and Ben Kingsley this movie is very well done and it is highly recommended.
