June Movies

At the Movies:

1) Kung Fu Panda was a fun movie to watch and better than we had expected. The premise that the secret to one's success can be found within one's self was well delivered. The animation is excellent, the story line somewhat interesting, and the Star Studded Celebrity voices of, Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Ian McShane and Michael Clarke Duncan make this movie, a cartoon for adults, very enjoyable. We recommend Kung Fu Panda with....................................................................................................... 3.5-Stars

2) Don't Mess with the Zohan. Adam Sandler delivers another amusing comedic farce which is entertaining although it does drag towards the end. Sandler plays a former Israeli counter terrorist who's dream it is to cut and style hair while seducing all of his elderly clientele along the way. The movie is packed with celebrities including John Turturro, Lainie Kazan, Rob Schneider, Dave Matthews, Charlotte Rae, Kevin Nealon, Chris Rock, Mariah Carey, John McEnroe, George Takei and Henry Winkler. It is worth watching for the comic relief. We give The Zohan..................................................................................... 2.5 Stars

On DVD:

The Contract - A dramatic crime thriller starring John Cusack and Morgan Freeman. Suspenseful and unpredictable we give The Contract -................................. 3-Stars

Untraceable - Diane Lane and Billy Burke star in this thriller where the bad guy is using the Internet to kill his victims. Interesting premise and study of the human psyche. We liked this movie. It was interesting and fast paced. Untraceable merits............................................3-Stars

Along Came A Spider - Another Morgan Freeman movie, this one involves a congressman's daughter under Secret Service protection who is kidnapped from a private school by an insider who calls Det. Alex Cross, (Freeman) sucking him into the case even though he's recovering from the loss of his partner. Very good movie. Along Came a Spider spins...........................3.5-Stars

Lost Horizon - This 1937 classic directed by Frank Capra was very good. A plane crash delivers a group of people to the secluded land of Shangri-La -- but is it the miraculous utopia that it appears to be? Starring Ronald Coleman, Jane Wyatt, Ed Everett Horton and John Howard this movie was stunning considering when it was made. We give Lost Horizons a strong ........................................................................4-Stars.

Naked Boys Singing - The novelty of this comedic musical wears off during the first 5 minutes of the production. Once you realize that they are naked and can not really sing all that well, you are over it. Naked Boys Singing gets a bare................................................1.5-Stars.

On Pay-per-View:

Ring of Death - This action crime drama starring Stacey Keach was shallow and too violent to be entertaining. This movie deals with corruption in the penal system of California and how one obsessed corrupt warden manipulates the inmates for his financial gain. Not even the occasional gratuitous nudity can save this flick. Ring of Death is barely alive with 2.5-Stars.

On HBO:

The Breach - This mystery thriller starring Chris Cooper, Brian Phillippe and Lauray Linney is very good. It is a suspenseful espionage drama that is sure to please. Based on the true story, FBI upstart Eric O'Neill (Phillippe) enters into a power game with his boss, Robert Hanssen, (Cooper) an agent who was ultimately convicted of selling secrets to the Soviet Union.
We feel The Breach deserves............................................................... 3.5-Stars.
